Hu Ge’s new film "The Wild Goose Lake" tells the story of finding the dignity of life

Beijing Daily News (Reporter, Wang Jinyue) After "Fireworks in the Day" won the Berlin Golden Bear Award, Diao Yinan’s second film "The Wild Goose Lake" is scheduled to be released nationwide on December 6. On November 22, Diao Yinan and star Hu Ge appeared at the "Nande First See" meeting at the 28th Golden Rooster and Hundred Flowers Film Festival to share their creative experience with the audience.

Diao Yinan said that he spent two years writing the script, and the imagination of inspiration and the correspondence of real life stimulated him to create such a film. The filming process was also very difficult, 85% of which was night scenes, and many extras were scheduled. The actors worked until the early morning every day, "living a dark and black-and-white life."

Speaking of the reason for choosing Hu Ge, Diao Yinan said that when he saw a photo of Hu Ge in a magazine, he was moved by his image. "There are many stories behind Hu Ge’s face, a very rebellious Hu Ge." Hu Ge recalled that when Director Diao found him, he was in a period of confusion about his work, "always waiting for a good script and a good character." The first time he met Director Diao was very uneasy, because he had not tried such a film before, "I am afraid that it will not be completed, and it will be delayed."

Mr. Hu’s character, Zhou Zenong, is one of the leaders of a gang of thieves in the Ganghu district of wild geese. As the gang fights for turf interests, his team fights with the other party and embarks on the road of escape for accidentally killing a police officer. The story of the film is inspired by real news events. Hu Ge felt that the biggest problem in playing this character is to approach the character from temperament. In order to find the feeling of this character from within, he deliberately kept all the negative emotions during the shooting, whether physical or emotional or mental, "because I feel anxious, uneasy, or insecure, which is very consistent with this character."

In the film, Zhou Zenong walks between the two women. Hu Ge analyzes that Zhou Zenong and Yang Shujun (Wan Qian) are husband and wife, and he treats her and the child in the way he thinks is correct. "I imagine Zhou Zenong’s life is a person who has no hope for life. He lives on the edge every day, and he doesn’t realize the value of life until he knows that his life is worth 300,000. He gives his wife and children the support he can give." The relationship between Zhou Zenong and Liu Aiai (played by Gui Lunmei) was a strange spark that sparked during the escape. "In the end, Zhou Zenong became more vulnerable the more he fled.

In Diao Yinan’s opinion, Zhou Zenong, as a man, finally completed the redemption of his life at the last moment, and the two women also won in this regard. "This is a story about people on the edge looking for dignity and the meaning of life."

Director Cao Baoping also rushed to the scene to watch the movie. He commented that the completion of the movie was very high, "I have a lot of respect for Diao Yinan. This time, the director specially used his voice and shape to complete the narrative of a movie, which is not easy."
